“Rain and Rust"
Talk, Poetry Reading and Book Signing with Valerie Fern
Friday, August 21st 7:30 pm

L
uminata is pleased to feature local author, poet and photographer Valerie Fern. Valerie will be reading from her new title Rain and Rust, a collection of her haiku poems illustrated with her photography.

Haiku is traditional Japanese poetry characterized by short verses. In her photography and poems Valerie draws on the Japanese tradition of “wabi-sabi”, the aesthetic that perceives the beauty in all things imperfect, impermanent and incomplete. In this regard each poem and image is a meditation on the ephemeral nature of life and living.

Valerie’s haiku poems are each a condensation of poetic insight and perception that draws the reader inward in silent reflection. Her evocative photography captures a variety of moods with images from everyday life. The book honors the seasons of winter, spring, summer, autumn and new year. A portion of each book sale will be donated to Animal Friends Rescue in Pacific Grove, California.

“Living in the Light in a Time of Outer Darkness"
Talk and Shamanic Ritual with Jon Rasmussen
Friday, September 18th, 7:30 pm

The autumn equinox is a time of inner and outer balance. The cosmic scales of light and dark tip toward the gathering darkness in the the sun's annual journey. The fall equinox symbolizes the inner awareness of light that balances and neutralizes the shadows in the world and in ourselves.  Luminata is pleased to feature local author, shaman, and healer Jon Rasmussen, who will talk on the theme of contacting and expanding our inner light in a time of many shadows.

He will lead us in a shamanic ritual and guided journey, helping participants contact and expand the inner transforming light and fire of spirit.

Love offerings accepted.
